Recruiters… Bula! from Fiji!

Hi All! Today Luke and I are coming to you live from Fiji! We’re at the RCSA conference – Recruitment at the Speed of Tomorrow.

This will be a short post – after all, the pool is calling and the beer is cold – but I wanted to take a moment to share a couple of take outs from the first session…

First massive smack in the face was that – there is a dude (seriously) sitting in a room in Jakarta who controls the whole internet for Indonesia, and often for his own amusement pulls the blue ethernet cable on Facebook… No real relevance to the conference, or recruitment, but it gave me a good chuckle.

Next… Ask yourself this question… How will the next Generation Think About Work?

The speaker – Mike Walsh – took us through life since 2007 and the emergence of the  iPhone and Smart Phone. And how pre-smart phones – when we made appointments we had to keep them, now we send an email, text or voicemail to say we’ve been held up, or worse still, re-scheduling.  This is how our kids now perceive reality…

He told us how kids these days interact via games (X-Box, Wii etc.), and pointed to an example of how the Marriott Hotel group have recently developed a game app simulating what it is like to work for Marriott… It’s been a huge success as a recruitment tool for them…

Look, I could go on forever, but the message today is be smart, and be inventive in your recruitment strategy – or you will fall behind.

Now, for me, it’s off to the golf course, or the pool side bar – I haven’t decided which… I’ve actually arranged to meet people at both locations… doesn’t matter, I’ll send them a text…
